About Facilities Courses David Dunn Suite Industry & Research FY Simulation
Simulation courses are an integral part of our Foundation doctors training here at Addenbrooke's. We run both a high fidelity scenario based simulation course, and more recently we have introduced a Virtual Reality simulation course.
FY Simulation Course:
A small group of FY1 & FY2 doctors are led by experienced faculty. Participants have access to the simulator for a whole day, learning how to treat and manage the critically ill patient through various scenarios.
A focus is put on the following skills:
Virtual Reality Simulation
We are now incorporating virtual reality simulation training into the FY simulation training programme. This allows both group work and individualised simulation using a custom built system and Oculus Rift. Custom developed programmes of 10 simulations changing with each foundation year are installed with individualised log in and feedback. The rationale is that they are 'skills and drills' scenarios for the foundation doctors to practice to be confident and capable of approaching similar scenarios in the workplace.
